Conway Square

The new lighting project for Conway Square, coordinated by AECOM and part of a wider project of urban regeneration for Newtownards, fulfilled the client’s instructions of returning the square to its role as the city’s meeting point and beating heart.
Chroma Lighting devised a lighting project for the general and diffused lighting of the square. They identified certain points that they wanted to highlight, such as the central part of the town hall façade, which is also home to the Ards Arts Centre, the seating and the clock tower.

The technical solutions employed to achieve the desired effect consist of columns created specifically for this project, on which Woody and Miniwoody projectors were installed. A combination of white light at 4000 K and RGB fittings, focusing their beam towards the square and the main façade of the town hall, were used to integrate the chiaroscuro effect created by the Linealuce recessed light fixtures installed at the base of the central part of the town hall. Linealuce Mini fittings were used in front of the building, to illuminate the seating area, whilst Light Up recessed light fixtures were installed around the square, to focus their beams on the trees growing in the flower beds. The project was completed with Street fittings, installed on poles, to provide the lighting for the perimeter paths.
